DENTAL WHITENING
Smile has a high social importance, expresses communicativeness and is a good business card to offer a pleasant and well-groomed appearance.
A good dentition also witnesses a good state of health.
Dental bleaching allows a smile that is whiter and shinier.
Dental bleaching is a cosmetic dental treatment aimed at improving the color of the teeth.
The color of the tooth is conditioned by three parameters:
TINTA: it is the true color and is determined by the base color of the dentin, dental tissue immediately below the enamel.
The dentistry tint is detected through a color scale that includes 4 colors:
Tint A: red-brown
Tint B: orange-brown
Tint C: green-gray
Tinta D: pink-gray
CROMA: it is the level of saturation of intensity of the hue, the factor that most determines it is the age of the tooth, together with the thickness of the enamel.
According to the color scale the chroma is indicated with a number from 1 to 4, ex. A1 saturated chroma, whiter tooth, while A4 intense chroma tooth tending to yellow.
VALUE: is the degree of brightness, determined by the thickness of the enamel. The more a color tends to white, the greater the value.
Of all these parameters, the value is the one that is most modified by dental bleaching, making the tooth brighter and brighter.
The color of the teeth is a hereditary characteristic that over time is modified by several factors: age, smoking, level of oral hygiene, eating habits.
The treatments involve the application of a gel based on Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide. The oxygen released by the gel penetrates into the prisms of the enamel, allowing the tooth to clear.
Following this treatment, dental sensitivity may occur; these are temporary and resolve within a few days of the end of treatment.
To counteract this phenomenon you can avoid foods that are too hot or too cold and excessively acid (eg vinegar, lemon, kiwi etc ...)
Throughout the treatment period it is recommended to avoid or at least reduce all the pigmenting substances: Tea, coffee, colored drinks eg, red wine, colored candy and licorice, smoke.
PLANNING A CUSTOMIZED TREATMENT:
Professional treatment:
It is performed entirely in the studio by the Dentist or Dental Hygienist.
It can be carried out with 38% Hydrogen Peroxide or 35% Carbamide Peroxide.
The use of light sources such as LED or Laser lamps can reduce application time.
The session lasts about 1h, 1h and 30min and it is possible to obtain evident results even with just one session.
Assisted home treatment:
This treatment is performed at home by the patient, after a visit from the dental hygienist for an oral hygiene session, taking impressions for the masks, inside which the patient will put the gel provided by the study.
The product used is 16% or 10% Carbamide Peroxide.
The treatment should be performed 1 hour a day every day for 15 days after carefully washing the teeth. At mid-treatment the professional will check the results and correctness of the applications.
Combined treatment:
This system consists in combining professional and home treatment.
Thanks to the synergy of the two treatments it is possible to intensify the result and maintain a bright, luminous smile over time.
Dental Bleaching is intended for all motivated patients who want to give light to their smile.
The requirements to be good candidates for whitening are: good oral hygiene and therefore soft tissues in health, absence of carious processes that can increase the risk of sensitivity.
The patient should consider that the gel acts only on natural teeth and not on the filling material and on prosthetic products. Possible obturations on the anterior teeth could be reviewed after treatment if too different from the obtained color.
The final result of bleaching is definitive and lasting, however over time, about 2 years from the first treatment, the brightness of the smile may have diminished, in this case the patient who wants to give light to his smile can repeat the home treatment, after the session of Oral Hygiene.
